Oyewole Cleared By Senate For Appointment To Nigeria’s Apex Court

Justice Joseph Oyewole has been confirmed by the Senate as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

The approval came on Tuesday following the consideration of a report submitted by the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, chaired by Senator Adegbonmire Ayodele.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier requested the Senate to confirm Oyewole’s nomination in January, in line with Section 231(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Presenting the committee’s report, Senator Ayodele urged the Senate to receive and consider the findings, noting that the nominee met the constitutional and professional requirements for appointment to the Supreme Court.

The Senate subsequently confirmed the nomination through a voice vote.

Congratulating the new justice, Senate President Godswill Akpabio praised the nominee and applauded the committee for what he described as a thorough and commendable review process.
