The Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has reiterated its resolve to continue evacuating mentally challenged persons from the streets across the Kano metropolis and its environs.
Speaking on Monday in Kano, the Executive Secretary of the agency, Alhaji Isyaku Kubarachi, said the initiative was part of SEMA’s statutory responsibilities.
He revealed that the operation had resulted in the evacuation of more than 200 vulnerable individuals, who are now under the care of the agency for rehabilitation and possible reunification with their families.
Kubarachi explained that the exercise was designed to sanitise urban areas and address the risks associated with the presence of vulnerable persons roaming the streets.
He noted that SEMA was collaborating with relevant stakeholders to safeguard the welfare of those evacuated and to ensure long-term solutions to the challenge.
