Osun Lawmakers Stand Firm With Governor Adeleke, Dismiss Defection Claims

The 25 lawmakers representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Osun State House of Assembly have strongly denied rumours suggesting they are planning to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing the media in Osogbo on Wednesday, Speaker Wale Egbedun described the speculation as baseless and politically motivated, assuring the public of the assembly’s unity and loyalty to Governor Ademola Adeleke.

“We are not for sale,” Egbedun said, “and we are not swayed by political noise. Our mandate is from the people, and we are honour-bound to uphold it.”

The speaker underscored the PDP’s dominance in the state legislature and reaffirmed the lawmakers’ support for Adeleke’s administration and his anticipated re-election bid in 2026.

“There is no internal crisis here. The PDP in Osun is united, strong, and focused. We’re fully behind the governor and the party’s leadership under Sunday Bisi,” he said.

Egbedun pointed to the lawmakers’ close ties to their constituents as evidence of their political grounding. “We live among the people, and we know how they feel. Osun residents support the governor because they can see the progress he’s making.”

He called on residents to disregard rumours of disunity and instead focus on the administration’s achievements. “What you’re witnessing here is a group of lawmakers committed to development, not political distractions,” Egbedun added.

The remarks come amid growing speculation across Nigeria’s political landscape, with realignments and alliances taking shape in the lead-up to the 2026 general elections.
