Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has emerged as the Accord Party’s flag-bearer for the state’s August 8, 2026 governorship election.
The party’s primary, conducted in Osogbo on Wednesday under the supervision of INEC officials, saw Adeleke secure 145 votes out of 150 cast. Five votes were invalidated. Mrs Mariam Saleh, chairperson of the Electoral Committee, confirmed that the exercise complied fully with party regulations.
Saleh, represented by Mr Abdulazeez Salaudeen, described Adeleke as “a man of honour, integrity and strength” and urged party members to rally behind him.
National chairman Maxwell Ngbudem presented the certificate of return to Adeleke, praising both the committee and INEC for overseeing a smooth primary.
In his acceptance address, Adeleke called on party supporters and voters across Osun to back the Accord Party. He promised to continue the “golden movement” of development, pledging to prioritise citizens’ welfare, strengthen infrastructure, expand agro-industrial initiatives for youth, and foster innovation in health, education and social services.
The governor formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party on 2 December and announced his Accord Party membership last month, signalling his intention to seek re-election under the new platform.
