Osun Governor Adeleke Defects To Accord Party, Declares 2026 Re-Election Bid

Osun State Governor, Sen. Ademola Adeleke, has officially joined the Accord Party, declaring his intention to seek re-election in the August 8, 2026 governorship election.

The governor made the announcement on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Osogbo, during a meeting with national and state leaders of the Accord Party, according to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Malam Olawale Rasheed.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Adeleke resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on December 2. His resignation was contained in a letter dated November 4, addressed to the PDP chairman of Sagba Abogunde Ward 2, Ede North Local Government Area.

In the letter, Adeleke cited persistent leadership crises at the national level of the PDP as his reason for leaving the party.

A Month-Old Move Made Public

Clarifying his political status, Adeleke revealed that he had actually joined the Accord Party over a month ago.

“I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago, precisely on Nov. 6, as a platform to seek re-election in 2026,” he said.
“This was after weeks of consultation and deliberation with stakeholders and opinion leaders.”

He added that stakeholders and residents of Osun were already aware of the reasons behind the decision.

Why Adeleke Chose Accord

Adeleke said his decision was guided by the Accord Party’s emphasis on welfarism, which aligns with his administration’s focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare.

“We opted for the Accord Party because its mission of welfarism aligns with our passionate focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare,” he said.
“You are now part of us, as I am also part of you. We are united in progress and good intentions for the good people of Osun State.”

He stressed the need for a united front ahead of the 2026 polls, saying inclusive leadership would be central to the party’s strategy.

‘Osun Will Choose Continuity’

Adeleke expressed confidence that the people of Osun, who voted for him in 2022, would support him again in 2026.

“Osun voted for good governance in 2022, and they will support continuity in 2026,” he said.
“The mass of our people are for continuity, and Accord is our party for victory next year.”

He praised the party’s philosophy, saying it reflects his own governance values of welfare-driven leadership and improved service delivery.

“Since I joined the party more than a month ago, I have been fascinated by its philosophy,” he said.
“From infrastructure to social services, Osun has never had it so good in governance and service delivery.”

A New Political Platform

Adeleke declared the Accord Party as the new platform for his political movement across the state’s three senatorial districts.

“From Osun West to Osun East to Osun Central, this is our party, our new platform for victory come August next year,” he said.

He concluded by formally declaring his membership in the Accord Party “in accordance with the will of stakeholders and the wishes of the Osun people.”
