The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has praised President Bola Tinubu’s proposed restructuring of the Forest Guard security framework, describing it as a vital initiative to strengthen national security and restore investor confidence.
The traditional monarch made the remarks on Sunday during a courtesy visit to President Tinubu at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos. Speaking to journalists afterwards, the Ooni commended the President’s renewed focus on grassroots-level security and acknowledged the administration’s efforts in tackling the country’s complex security landscape.
“We are pleased with the proposed Forest Guard system and the new structure to integrate additional police personnel to patrol and secure forested areas across the country, from the north to the south,” Oba Ogunwusi stated. “Once we resolve the security challenges, Nigeria will have a more solid foundation to attract sustainable investment.”
He expressed confidence that the initiative would contribute to long-term peace and boost investor interest in Nigeria’s economy.
During the visit, the Ooni also conveyed his appreciation for President Tinubu’s broader governance agenda, highlighting the positive international perception Nigeria is beginning to enjoy under his leadership.
“I recently returned from Kazakhstan, and I brought back encouraging feedback. The President’s efforts are putting Nigeria on the global map in new and promising ways,” he said.
Oba Ogunwusi pointed to macroeconomic reforms and greater transparency in the foreign exchange system as signs of progress.
“For the first time in our recent history, the disparity between official and parallel market exchange rates has significantly narrowed. There’s no longer a double standard—investors can bring in foreign currency and repatriate it freely. The global community is taking notice,” he remarked.
He further called on traditional leaders across Nigeria to play a more active role in supporting national development and fostering hope among the younger generation.
“Traditional rulers must lead by example, collaborate closely with government institutions, and inspire our youth. What we are witnessing is a renewed sense of hope for the future of Nigeria,” the monarch concluded.
