The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said only Nigerians aged 18 and above are eligible to register as voters.
Yobe REC Ibrahim Abdullahi made the clarification on Thursday during a visit to the Emir of Bade, Abubakar Umar-Suleiman, in Gashua.
The Emir had asked if 16- or 17-year-olds could pre-register ahead of the 2027 elections. Abdullahi replied that the Electoral Act prohibits such.
He said online voter registration began on August 18, with physical registration scheduled for August 25 across Yobe’s 17 LGAs.
The Emir pledged to mobilise traditional leaders to support the exercise.
