The Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, has urged the people of Anambra State to vote with integrity and peace of mind as they head to the polls for Saturday’s governorship election.
In a message to the electorate delivered during a media briefing on Monday, Achebe encouraged voters to make independent choices free from coercion or financial inducement.
“The future of our state lies in the choices we make at the ballot box,” the monarch said. “I urge everyone to vote their conscience, reject vote buying, and participate actively in shaping Anambra’s future.”
Achebe appealed to political parties and their supporters to embrace peaceful conduct and respect democratic principles, warning that violence and intolerance could undermine public confidence in the electoral process.
He also called on the Federal Government to step up efforts to reduce poverty and hunger and to address the growing wave of insecurity affecting communities across Nigeria.
The traditional ruler urged residents to remain united and resilient, noting that upholding Igbo values such as hard work, honesty, and community spirit was essential to the state’s sustainable development.
