Staff unions at Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) in Okitipupa, Nigeria, have suspended a two-week warning strike triggered by unmet labour demands.
The industrial action, which started on 20 June, followed a call by the Joint Action Congress (JAC) of Ondo State Tertiary Institutions (ODSTI) over issues such as unpaid allowances and inadequate institutional funding.
Represented by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non Academic Staff Union (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), union members resumed work after the Ondo State Government agreed to several of their demands.
According to Mr Bobola Bamigbola, JAC chairman at OAUSTECH, the state government has approved payment of a long-standing subvention from January 2017, along with five months of a wage award, and has promised to address three further outstanding issues.
Among these unresolved concerns are the implementation of the national minimum wage, payment of outstanding wage awards, and settling the gratuities owed to retired staff.
