The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, has urged collaboration across all sectors to curb stereotyping, create opportunities, and strengthen collective humanity. She made the remarks during the commissioning of the Gender and Public Policy Studies Centre (GaPPS) at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, which has been named the Sen. Oluremi Tinubu Gender Centre of Excellence.
As part of her support, Mrs. Tinubu donated N250 million to the centre. She said the initiative aligns with Nigeria’s National Gender Policy (2006), the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 5 and 16), and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
“The Centre’s approach includes both men and women, recognising that inclusion must be a shared national agenda. Actual progress will come when both genders stand as allies, working together to dismantle stereotypes, open opportunities, and strengthen our collective humanity,” she said.
Prof. Ayo Omotayo, NIPSS Director General, praised the First Lady for promoting leadership inclusiveness and said the centre will serve as a hub for training, research, and gender advocacy across Africa.
Sen. Ken Nnamani, NIPSS Board Chairman, and Gov. Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State also commended Mrs. Tinubu, with the governor pledging to donate a vehicle to the institute.
The centre is expected to advance gender-sensitive policymaking, strategic engagement, and sustainable development in Nigeria, Africa, and globally.
