Ogun Governor Presents N1.66 Trillion 2026 Budget To State Assembly

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has presented a N1.66 trillion appropriation bill for 2026 to the state House of Assembly, describing it as the “Budget of Sustainable Legacy.”

The presentation took place on Wednesday at the assembly complex in Abeokuta. Abiodun explained that the budget allocates N1.044 trillion (63 per cent) to capital expenditure, while N624.76 billion (37 per cent) is earmarked for recurrent spending.

Breaking down recurrent expenditure, the governor highlighted N167.92 billion for personnel costs, N99.98 billion for public debt charges, and N291.06 billion for overheads.

On revenue, Abiodun said the state expects N509.88 billion from internal sources, including N250 billion from the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS) and N259.88 billion from other ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs). Funding from the federal government, including statutory allocations, Value Added Tax, and other shared revenues, is projected at N554.81 billion. Capital receipts, comprising internal and external loans and grants, are estimated at N518.90 billion.

The governor outlined sectoral allocations, with infrastructure receiving the largest share at N526.15 billion (32 per cent), followed by education at N275 billion (17 per cent) and health at N210.59 billion (13 per cent). Housing and community development are allocated N166.96 billion (10 per cent), agriculture and industry N40.54 billion (2 per cent), recreation, culture, and religion N42.24 billion (3 per cent), and social protection N72.82 billion (4 per cent).

Abiodun stressed that, despite prevailing economic challenges, his administration remains committed to building a productive economy, empowering citizens, and promoting inclusive development across all sectors. He also highlighted Ogun State’s position as one of Nigeria’s largest contributors to non-oil revenue.

“Ogun remains one of the top three industrial states in Nigeria and a leading contributor to non-oil revenue nationally,” he said.

Speaker of the House of Assembly, Oludaisi Elemide, assured the governor of the legislature’s commitment to ensuring a swift and successful passage of the appropriation bill, pledging continued cooperation with the executive and judiciary.

For context, Governor Abiodun presented a N1.055 trillion budget for 2025.
