Ogene Decries ‘Nil’ Budget Implementation, Rising Insecurity

The Leader of the Labour Party Caucus in the House of Representatives, Rep. Afam Ogene, has raised alarm over what he described as a near-total failure in the implementation of the 2025 capital budget and escalating insecurity across the country.

Ogene said Nigeria had become a “special economic zone” where “everyone and everything now has a price”. He expressed concern that, despite being in the twelfth month of the year, ministries, departments, agencies and government-owned enterprises could not boast of achieving even 10 per cent capital budget execution.

He also condemned what he called the impunity of officials who had failed to account for revenues meant for budget implementation. According to him, the dire situation had sparked protests, with local contractors occupying offices at the Federal Ministry of Finance and retired police officers blocking the gates of the National Assembly, while kidnappers continued to strike daily.

Ogene warned that the country could not continue on this “sorry path” and urged both the ruling party and the opposition to prioritise national interest above politics.
