Acclaimed Nigerian filmmaker Obi Emelonye is set to release his latest drama, Safari, in cinemas nationwide on 21 November, marking a new milestone for Nollywood’s growing international presence.
Announcing the film on his verified Instagram page, Emelonye teased the story as “a journey of adventure, pain, courage, and triumph — one story you’ll never forget.”
Safari tells the story of Nkiru Farouk, a disenchanted wife of a Nigerian politician who flees her troubled life in Nigeria for a safari retreat in Kenya. What begins as a search for peace quickly spirals into a tale of passion and peril when she falls for a local beach worker accused of a tourist’s murder.
The film stars Osas Ighodaro, Ali Nuhu, Jide Achufusi, Emmanuel Mugo, and Ken Ambani, among others. It was filmed across major African cities — Lagos, Abuja, Nairobi, and Mombasa — reflecting one of Nollywood’s most ambitious transcontinental productions.
Described as a fusion of romance, thriller, and human drama, Safari delves into themes of identity and renewal while bridging cinematic cultures between West and East Africa.
Premiered earlier at the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), the film is expected to attract wide audiences both within Africa and beyond, underscoring Emelonye’s status as one of Nigeria’s most visionary directors.
