NSC Honours Nigerian Barber Tjosh For Breaking Hairdressing World Record

The National Sports Commission has honoured Nigerian stylist Joshua Aiyenuro Babatunde, famously known as Tjosh, after he shattered the world record for the longest professional hairdressing marathon, completed at Abuja’s National Stadium Velodrome.

Tjosh embarked on the endurance challenge on 10 June 2025, and brought it to a successful finish on 17 June, capturing national attention and admiration.

Key sports figures including NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director-General Hon. Bukola Olopade visited the venue during the feat to offer words of encouragement and support.

In an official statement, Dikko praised the stylist’s determination, describing the achievement as “a testament to the drive and excellence of Nigerian youth.”

“I’m not surprised at all,” said Dikko. “Nigeria’s youth remain some of the most resilient and innovative globally. Tjosh has once again proven that our young people can compete — and lead — on the world stage.”

Hon. Olopade, known for championing youth-led initiatives, expressed delight at the stylist’s success.

“When he came to share his vision, I saw ambition and passion,” said Olopade. “We were pleased to grant him access to the Velodrome, and today we’re celebrating an extraordinary Nigerian who has made history.”

The NSC reiterated its commitment to promoting creative and athletic talents across the country. The record-breaking attempt is being hailed as a landmark moment in Nigeria’s cultural and entrepreneurial landscape, and a source of inspiration for aspiring record-breakers nationwide.
