NNPP Denies Involvement In Proposed Nationwide Protest At INEC Offices

The New Nigeria People’s Party has denied any involvement in a proposed protest against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said to be planned for Tuesday.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Ladipo Johnson, made this known in a statement released in Abuja on Monday, following reports that the NNPP intended to organise demonstrations at INEC’s national headquarters and state offices across the country.

Johnson described the planned protest as illegal and said it was being organised by individuals falsely claiming to represent the party.

He stated that the organisers were no longer members of the NNPP, citing a Federal High Court judgment delivered on 18 April 2024 in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/1354/2024.

According to him, Justice Emeka Nwite affirmed in the ruling that the individuals had lost their membership of the party after being expelled by the appropriate party organs.

Johnson further alleged that the group had failed to appeal the court’s decision and was instead seeking favourable rulings through what he termed forum shopping.

“They habitually approach the courts without disclosing the full facts, but once the courts are properly guided, their cases collapse,” he said.

He stressed that the NNPP would not participate in any protest slated for Tuesday and warned that those behind it were acting without the party’s authorisation.

The party spokesman urged NNPP members nationwide to remain calm and not be provoked by actions aimed at diverting attention from the party’s core goals.
