The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has announced that a fire incident affecting part of the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline System in Delta State has been successfully contained.
In a statement issued on Sunday, NNPC Ltd.’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, said the situation was stabilised following an explosion reported on Wednesday evening at about 17:50 hours near the Tebijor, Okpele and Ikpopo communities in the Gbaramatu Kingdom.
Odeh explained that emergency response teams executed coordinated containment actions to prevent further damage and to protect local residents, personnel and the surrounding environment.
He said all affected sections of the pipeline had been isolated as a safety measure.
A preliminary joint inspection of the site has since been conducted by NNPC Ltd. alongside officials from the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority and technical maintenance contractors.
The statement added that the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company, which manages the pipeline network, has activated its Business Continuity Plan to minimise disruptions for affected stakeholders, including suppliers and shippers.
NNPC Ltd. said it continues to engage with host communities and relevant government authorities, acknowledging their support during the response effort. The company reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high safety standards, protecting the environment and ensuring the dependable operation of its assets nationwide.
