Former Nigerian military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), has said that the country continues to endure because of the prayers offered by both Christians and Muslims.
Speaking at his residence in Minna during a courtesy visit by the Niger State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to celebrate his 84th birthday, Babangida expressed gratitude for the support and prayers he has received.
“The prayers of both faiths have been very effective and are what is keeping the country,” he told the delegation. “I urge you to maintain this relationship for the good of the country and its people.”
Babangida, who ruled Nigeria between 1985 and 1993, emphasised the importance of strengthening ties between adherents of both religions to ensure national unity and sustainable development.
On behalf of CAN, Rev. Joshua Markus commended the former leader’s service to the nation and prayed for his continued health and fulfilment. Markus represented Bishop Bulus Yohanna, chairman of CAN in Niger State and Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese.
