Nigeria’s foreign trade reached a remarkable N36 trillion in the first quarter of 2025, as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The statistics indicate exports totalled N20.598 trillion, while imports stood at N15.426 trillion, leading to a substantial surplus of N5.172 trillion.
Dominating the export figures were crude oil sales at N12.955 trillion, alongside agricultural exports, which amounted to N1.74 trillion, with cocoa beans being the most significant commodity. This trade volume reflects a 6.19% increase from the previous year’s figures but shows a 1.58% decrease from the last quarter.
In this quarter, exports made up 57.18% of total trade, evidencing a 7.42% increase from the same quarter last year and a 2.92% rise from the previous quarter.
