Nigeria’s Economy On Path To Sustainable Growth, Says VP Shettima

Nigeria’s Vice-President Kashim Shettima has said President Bola Tinubu’s reforms are reshaping the economy and opening new doors for global partnerships.

Shettima spoke on Monday in Abuja during a meeting with a VISA delegation led by Tareq Muhmood, the company’s Regional President for Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa (CEMEA).

He described the administration’s reforms as “painful but necessary,” stressing that they were already yielding results. “The tax reforms are gaining traction, we are restoring discipline to the system and our foreign reserve is growing steadily,” he said.

Commending VISA’s expanding footprint in Nigeria, Shettima urged the company to tap into the country’s significant unbanked population, adding that digital payment systems could drive transparency and fight corruption across Africa.

Muhmood welcomed the government’s economic measures, attributing VISA’s renewed interest in Nigeria to recent policy achievements. He said the company plans to increase its investment in the country and actively support initiatives that improve livelihoods.
