Nigeria’s Civil Defence Corps Issues Alert Over Social Media Recruitment Scam

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ogun State has sounded the alarm over a fake recruitment scheme circulating across social media platforms, warning that it is not currently conducting any recruitment.

In an official statement released on Tuesday, spokesperson for the command, Mr Dyke Ogbonnaya, disclosed that a group of fraudsters had been impersonating a senior Corps officer to lure unsuspecting applicants into paying money for non-existent job placements.

“We have received credible information about a syndicate exploiting the public using the image and reputation of a respected senior officer. This is a clear attempt to defraud innocent people,” Ogbonnaya said.

He stressed that any recruitment exercise by the NSCDC would be formally announced via official government channels and recognised news outlets. The Corps urged citizens to treat any recruitment offer on social media with suspicion unless confirmed through official sources.

“This scam is a malicious attempt to undermine the integrity of the Corps. We are actively investigating and tracking those involved through our intelligence networks, and legal action will follow,” he added.

Ogbonnaya appealed to the public to remain cautious and report any such activities to the appropriate authorities.

“The NSCDC completely dissociates itself from this fraudulent scheme and from any association with those involved. We encourage the public to be informed, cautious, and cooperative in reporting such criminal activities,” he said.

Authorities confirmed that efforts are ongoing to dismantle the syndicate behind the scam, with the aim of preventing further financial losses to the public.
