Nigerian Works Minister Declares Unwavering Loyalty to President Tinubu

Nigeria’s Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has publicly reaffirmed his deep loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, declaring that after God, the President is the only person from whom he takes directives.

Speaking to journalists in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, the former governor expressed profound gratitude for the president’s recent commendation of his work on critical national infrastructure projects. He described the praise as worth “more than a trillion dollars,” stating it reaffirmed his sense of purpose and divine favour.

“My loyalty is to God first, and then to President Tinubu,” Umahi said. “When a man places such trust in you as the President has done with me, only someone without a conscience would betray that.”

He cited a major infrastructure project valued at ₦1.6 trillion (approx. $1 billion USD) as an example of the confidence Tinubu had shown in him. According to Umahi, he managed the procurement process without any interference from the President—a gesture he described as unprecedented trust in Nigerian governance.

The minister also warned that betraying such confidence would invite divine consequences. “I pray every day that if I ever place myself, my family or my allies above God, the President or Nigerians, may my prayers go unanswered,” he added.

Umahi, who is overseeing over 30 large-scale road and bridge projects nationwide, confirmed that all are on track for completion and inauguration by 20 December. He dedicated Tinubu’s praise to citizens who have supported and prayed for his success.
