Governors from Nigeria’s North East have thrown their support behind President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027, citing his administration’s efforts in tackling insecurity and driving nationwide reform.
At a regional meeting of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) held on Sunday, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni argued that Tinubu’s performance since assuming office warrants a second term to complete his agenda.
“President Tinubu has demonstrated effective governance in a time of global and local uncertainty,” Buni told party stakeholders at the APC North East Consultative Forum. “His policy interventions are already laying the groundwork for long-term national development.”
Buni stressed that transformative policies often require extended timelines, warning that limiting them to a single term could stall their impact.
“These initiatives need time to take root,” he said. “It is only logical that the person who began them sees them through to full execution.”
He praised Tinubu’s approach to security in the North East, where insurgency has devastated livelihoods for years. According to Buni, progress is being made, with displaced communities beginning to return to their homes and farmlands—a critical step in achieving food security.
Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, who also addressed the forum, lauded Tinubu’s administration for making significant headway in restoring peace across the region.
“The gains are becoming more evident with each passing month,” Zulum said. “This is why we stand united in support of President Tinubu’s continued leadership.”
The endorsements signal growing momentum within the APC for a Tinubu re-election campaign as Nigeria looks toward the next general election in 2027.
