Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has called on the nation to recognise the vital contribution of fathers to national development, asserting that the strength of the country rests on the leadership shown within the family unit.
In a statement shared on Sunday to mark Father’s Day, President Tinubu hailed fathers across Nigeria and the global diaspora, describing them as quiet but powerful shapers of the nation’s moral and cultural foundation.
“Our country’s strength lies in the integrity and leadership of men within their homes,” he wrote on his verified X handle, formerly known as Twitter. “True fatherhood is about sacrifice, discipline, and leading by example. It means giving up comfort so that your children may dream and thrive.”
He stressed that fatherhood is more than a biological role; it is a responsibility carried by all men who guide and inspire younger generations through their example, mentorship, and care.
According to the president, the home remains the most essential environment for nurturing responsible citizens and future leaders. Fathers, he said, play an irreplaceable role in shaping not only their children but the broader society.
President Tinubu described fatherhood as a “sacred title,” noting that his own experience as a parent and grandparent has further deepened his appreciation for the daily sacrifices made by fathers.
He concluded his message with a heartfelt note of gratitude: “To all Nigerian fathers—whether by blood or by service—thank you. You are the quiet architects of our nation’s strength, and your efforts inspire a better future for us all.”
