Nigerian Government Screens 170 Foreign Applicants For Citizenship

Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has announced that the Federal Government is currently reviewing citizenship applications submitted by 170 foreign nationals.

In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), the minister said the exercise is being undertaken by the Citizenship Advisory Committee, which is tasked with assessing and recommending applications for President Bola Tinubu’s approval.

Describing the process as a matter of national trust, Tunji-Ojo pledged that the committee would act with fairness and integrity.

“The citizenship of the largest black nation in the world is a privilege that must be granted with caution,” he stated. “We are determined to prioritise integrity and proven character above all else.”

The minister noted that the committee includes senior representatives from the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

He reaffirmed that President Tinubu’s administration is working to strengthen Nigeria’s global image through credible immigration and citizenship procedures.

“Our goal is to build a prosperous nation that attracts talent, investment, and goodwill from around the world,” Tunji-Ojo said.
