Nigerian Authorities Dismiss Security Fears Amid US Embassy Warning In Capital

Nigeria’s Federal Government has dismissed concerns raised by a recent United States Embassy travel advisory, asserting that Abuja remains safe and secure for residents, travellers, and foreign nationals.

The assurance was delivered on Monday by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, in a statement responding to the US Embassy’s restriction on staff travel to certain government and military sites within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

While acknowledging the right of foreign missions to issue advisories, Idris clarified that the alert issued by the US was not prompted by any immediate or credible security threat in Abuja.

“Our security agencies are operating effectively and have consistently foiled potential threats,” he said. “Abuja is one of the most secure capitals in the world, and there is currently no cause for concern.”

The Minister emphasised that Nigeria’s security and intelligence frameworks are vigilant and proactive, with ongoing monitoring and readiness to respond to any emerging risks.

He encouraged residents to go about their lawful business without fear, while remaining alert and reporting any suspicious behaviour.

Idris also reaffirmed the government’s dedication to ensuring the safety of all individuals within Nigeria’s borders and called on international partners, including investors and diplomatic missions, to remain confident in the country’s security infrastructure.
