Nigeria Rebrands Defence Industries Corporation To Boost Local Arms Production

Nigeria is rebranding its Defence Industries Corporation to unify and standardise domestic military production, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen. Christopher Musa announced on Wednesday.

Speaking ahead of the Maiden African Chiefs of Defence Staff Conference, set for Aug. 25–27 in Abuja, Musa said all defence manufacturing firms will now operate under the corporation, subject to approval from the National Security Adviser and Ministry of Defence.

He disclosed ongoing procurement of armoured vehicles, drones, and other assets from local firms such as ProForce and Imperium, alongside refurbishment of damaged equipment.

Musa said the reforms will bolster national security, create jobs, spur innovation, and expand export potential, while calling for stronger African defence cooperation against cross-border threats.
