Nigeria’s political and business elite gathered in Katsina on Tuesday as President Bola Tinubu received the body of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in London at the age of 82.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima escorted Buhari’s remains back to Nigeria, departing the British capital in the early hours of the morning, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported.
President Tinubu’s arrival at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua Airport was marked by a solemn reception attended by Governor Dikko Radda, former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, and the Chairman of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote. Among the mourners were Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, ministers, and current and former senators.
The gathering also included influential figures such as Alhaji Dahiru Mangal, former Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed, and senior officials from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), underscoring the national significance of Buhari’s passing.
