Nigeria Forms Committee To Oversee State Burial For Late President Buhari

President Bola Tinubu has authorised the formation of an Inter-Ministerial Committee to plan and coordinate the state burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in London.

The announcement came via a statement released on Monday in Abuja by Mr Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

Senator George Akume, the SGF, will chair the committee, which is charged with ensuring a respectful and comprehensive state funeral for the late leader.

The committee’s membership comprises key ministers and officials, including the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy; Minister of Budget and Economic Planning; Minister of Defence; Minister of Information and National Orientation; Minister of Works; Minister of Interior; Minister of the FCT; Minister of Housing and Urban Development; Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare; and Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy.

Other members are the National Security Adviser; Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination; Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters; Inspector-General of Police; Director-General of the DSS; and the Chief of Defence Staff.

The Permanent Secretary of the General Services Office will serve as the committee’s secretariat.

To enable Nigerians to express their condolences, President Tinubu has also directed all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to open condolence registers at their offices.

Additionally, central condolence registers will be available for the diplomatic community and the public at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
