Nigeria’s National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially published the results of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), the assessment taken by students at the close of their Junior Secondary School education.
According to a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja by Mr Azeez Sani, NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, a total of 179,201 candidates were registered for the examination across 12 subjects. The exams ran smoothly between 12 and 23 May.
The release of the results came after the BECE Award Committee meeting, which took place at NECO headquarters in Minna. Dr Folake Olatunji-David, Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education and chair of the committee, expressed her satisfaction with the transparent and thorough process leading to the publication of the results.
“The meeting included representatives from NECO’s management team and several secondary school principals from around the country,” Sani added.
Additionally, NECO has set the dates for the 2025 BECE resit, allowing students who need to retake Mathematics and English Studies another chance to improve their grades. These resit exams are scheduled for 23 and 24 July.
The BECE serves as a critical milestone for students transitioning from Junior to Senior Secondary School in Nigeria.
