NECO Opens New Examination Centre In London To Serve Nigerian Diaspora

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has launched a new examination centre in London, United Kingdom, increasing its number of overseas centres to eight.

The centre, inaugurated by NECO’s Registrar and Chief Executive, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, was established in partnership with Barnfield Education Ltd (BEP Education) in London. Wushishi said the initiative is part of efforts to expand educational access for Nigerians living abroad.

In a statement issued in Minna, the Council’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, said the unveiling coincided with the “Education Matters Conference UK 2025,” where Wushishi delivered a keynote address. The event was aimed at raising awareness among stakeholders of NECO’s presence in the UK.

Sani explained that the London centre will benefit Nigerian students and adult learners in the United Kingdom who, for various reasons, have been unable to complete their secondary education or obtain equivalent qualifications.

Professor Wushishi said the move aligns with the Federal Government’s policy of promoting inclusivity and global engagement in education. He highlighted NECO’s commitment to transitioning fully to Computer-Based Examinations (CBE), describing it as central to the Council’s vision of becoming a world-class assessment body.

He also noted that the NECO Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) is currently being administered in seven countries, including Saudi Arabia, and that new centres in Egypt and Burkina Faso are awaiting accreditation.

According to him, the London centre will boost national pride, empower the Nigerian diaspora, and strengthen Nigeria’s educational credibility globally. He added that NECO certificates are recognised by universities such as Birmingham City University and Leeds Trinity University in the UK, as well as in countries including the United States, Canada, India, China and Russia.
