NDLEA’s Operation Yields 825,000 Opioid Pills in Kano, Adamawa, Kogi

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted around 825,000 opioid pills in a series of operations across Kano, Adamawa, and Kogi states.

Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, shared this information in a statement released on Sunday in Abuja.

According to Babafemi, Kogi State saw the seizure of 5,000 tramadol capsules, 400 ampoules of pentazocine, and 200 ampoules of diazepam from a suspect apprehended at Idah Waterside after crossing the River Niger from Onitsha, Anambra State, on August 20.

In Kano, two suspects, aged 25 and 24, were arrested on August 19 in Zangon Dakata Ungogo with 5,850 capsules of pregabalin. Another individual, now evading capture, had 452,070 opioid pills found in his home in Rangaza, Ungogo.

Babafemi also reported that a 35-year-old man was detained in Tashan Rami with 140 litres of codeine syrup, and on August 23, a 29-year-old suspect was caught along the Zaria-Kano Road with 7,000 tramadol capsules.

In Kwara State, NDLEA operatives intercepted a total of 2,289.49 kilograms of skunk, a cannabis variant, in three separate operations. On August 20, 1,232.86 kg was seized from a Mitsubishi Canter truck, leading to one arrest. The same day, another 328.42 kg was confiscated from a 47-year-old suspect in a Mercedes Benz truck. The subsequent day, on August 21, NDLEA agents seized an additional 728.21 kg of skunk from another Mitsubishi Canter at Ajase-Ipo junction, resulting in the arrest of two suspects aged 44 and 45. Furthermore, two more suspects, aged 50 and 54, were apprehended at Alafia Quarters, Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State, connected to the seizure of 96 kilograms of skunk.
