Nigeria’s anti-narcotics agency has intercepted 100,000 tramadol pills and destroyed nearly 17 tonnes of cannabis in nationwide operations, officials said on Sunday.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said a suspect was arrested in Kano on 8 September with the tramadol consignment. Other seizures in the state included 196 litres of Akuskura, an emerging psychoactive substance, and 34kg of skunk.
In Anambra, a couple were detained with almost 14kg of methamphetamine, while in Ogun, three traffickers were arrested with 394kg of skunk in a cross-border operation. NDLEA operatives also raided a cannabis farm in Edo, destroying crops weighing 16,966kg and seizing over a tonne of processed cannabis.
The agency said its “War Against Drug Abuse” sensitisation campaign continued in schools, motor parks, mosques and communities nationwide.
