Nigeria’s anti-narcotics agency has intensified its crackdown on drug trafficking, with multiple seizures across Lagos, Abuja, Kaduna and Gombe in the past week.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, operatives in Lagos on 22 September confiscated 85,100 tramadol pills from three suspects at Apapa. The same day in Kaduna, officers at the Abuja–Kaduna tollgate intercepted 56-year-old Adedamola Olayeni with over 260 kilogrammes of cannabis skunk packed in his SUV, reportedly bound for Katsina.
In Abuja, 40-year-old Opeyemi Ogundipe was arrested on 23 September with 2.1 kilogrammes of Colorado, while separate operations in Kaduna and Gombe uncovered over 500 grammes of methamphetamine and led to the arrest of 25-year-old Babangida Mohammed, believed to be the intended recipient.
The NDLEA has also continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, holding sensitisation activities in schools and communities nationwide, including in Oyo, Enugu, Katsina, Kano, Lagos and Kogi states.
NDLEA Chairman, retired Brigadier-General Buba Marwa, commended the officers for their “dexterity and commitment,” noting that every gram of narcotics removed from circulation helps to protect Nigerian youths, dismantle criminal supply chains and strengthen national security.
