Nigeria’s anti-narcotics agency has announced the recovery of over 653 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa and thousands of tramadol pills during coordinated raids across the country.
In a statement issued on Sunday, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi detailed the seizures, which took place between 1 and 5 September.
In Abuja, a dispatch rider was stopped and searched in the Gwarimpa district on 4 September and found carrying 3.1kg of Colorado, a potent strain of cannabis.
Lagos recorded the largest haul, when officers raided a house in Surulere on 1 September and seized 611kg of cannabis, including Canadian Loud, Colorado and Ghana Loud. Two suspects were arrested while attempting to load the drugs into vehicles for distribution. Three days later, a couple in Ajegunle were caught with 24.4kg of cannabis.
In Kogi, a man was intercepted with more than 53kg of cannabis concealed in cartons inside his car, while in Edo State, a 23-year-old suspect was detained in connection with an earlier Kaduna seizure of 233kg.
The NDLEA also recovered 11,000 tramadol tablets during an operation in Onitsha, Anambra, and confiscated 342kg of cannabis from a Hilux truck stopped on Minna-Bida road, Niger State.
“These operations underline the agency’s relentless efforts in combating drug trafficking across Nigeria,” Babafemi said, stressing that NDLEA would continue to disrupt criminal supply chains.
