Nigeria’s anti-narcotics agency has uncovered a factory in Lagos producing “skuchies,” a psychoactive cocktail made from cannabis and blackcurrant drink, in a sweeping series of nationwide raids.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) announced that the 11 September raid in Ikorodu yielded more than 6,000 bottles of the illicit drink and over four tonnes of cannabis. The manager of the facility was arrested, the agency confirmed.
The crackdown extended beyond Lagos. At Tincan Port, officials intercepted a shipment from Montreal containing 161 parcels of Canadian Loud, weighing 81.7kg, alongside 1.2kg of hashish oil concealed in vehicle parts. Two men were arrested. Another 65kg consignment of Canadian Loud was traced from the port and seized from a vehicle on Lagos’ Third Mainland Bridge.
In addition, operatives foiled attempts to smuggle methamphetamine disguised in a picture frame destined for Gabon and cannabis hidden in a video player bound for the United Arab Emirates.
The NDLEA also reported arrests in Abuja, where a dispatch rider was caught with cocaine and cannabis, and in Oyo State, where three women were found in possession of 17kg of cannabis.
Spokesman Femi Babafemi said the operations underscored the agency’s determination to dismantle trafficking networks and curb the spread of dangerous substances.
