The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has arrested 45,853 suspects and seized over 8.5 million kilograms of drugs in the last 30 months.
NDLEA Chairman, retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja during an award ceremony honouring 220 outstanding personnel.
He said the agency also secured 9,263 convictions and rehabilitated 26,613 drug users under its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign.
Marwa praised NDLEA officers for their “integrity, courage, and commitment” in tackling substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking nationwide.
He warned that drug-related crimes continued to pose a major threat to Nigeria’s security and social stability, fuelling violence, corruption, and terrorism.
Marwa thanked the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the UK, France, Germany, and Nigeria’s legislature for their ongoing support.
He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to dismantling drug cartels and strengthening law enforcement to protect the country’s youth and communities.
