National Sports Festival: Nasarawa State Opens Training Camp For Athletes

Nasarawa State on Tuesday, opened training camp for its athletes ahead of the 22nd National Sports Festival tagged: Gateway Games Ogun 2025, slated to hold from May 16 to May 30 in Ogun State.

Mr Yakubu Kwanta, the state’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, while declaring the camp open, said the 10 days preparation was to ensure that the contingents attain their peak performance at the games.

Kwanta called on the athletes to stay focused and disciplined throughout the training period.

He noted that early preparations was crucial for success, saying that the government had provided adequate logistics and funding to motivate the team and boost their morale.

He further urged the athletes to justify the state’s investment by demonstrating excellence in both character and performance, particularly as they prepare for the National Sports Festival.

Miss Beauty Timothy, Captain of the state team and Coach Bashir Bassey, who spoke on behalf of the athletes and officials, noted that the camping marked the first the state was commencing early preparations for a national event.

They expressed confidence in the team’s potential to bring home gold medals across multiple events.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a total of 273 athletes had been registered to participate in the 10 days camp.

Nasarawa State contingents would to compete in various sports including karate, athletics, judo.
Karate, chess, hockey, dart and taekwando. (NAN)
