The National Assembly has indicated that the harmonised tax reform bills could be approved as soon as Tuesday, after addressing contentious clauses within the proposed legislation.
James Faleke, the Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, confirmed this information in a post on his official X (previously Twitter) account on Sunday.
Faleke, who heads the House delegation responsible for the harmonisation of the bill, conveyed his optimism about the timeline.
Faleke remarked: “The Conference Committee formed by the House and the Senate concerning the Tax Reform Bills has successfully finalised its work. The joint committees conducted a thorough review of all sections and resolved the grey areas of the four Bills, scrutinising each clause with care and addressing contentious matters.
“After rigorous discussions that lasted through Thursday night, all day Friday, and into the early hours of Saturday, I am delighted to report that the Bills are now prepared for presentation to both the House and the Senate for final endorsement.
“I would particularly like to thank the Senate Conference Committee, capably chaired by Senator Sani Musa, as well as all members of the Senate Conference Committee.
“I also extend my deepest gratitude to my colleagues on the House Conference Committee, which I had the honour of leading, for their steadfast commitment to the Nigerian populace. We are sincerely grateful for your dedication and perseverance in bringing this vital task to a successful conclusion.”
