Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State on Wednesday submitted a N517.5 billion budget proposal for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly in Lafia. The appropriation bill, themed “Budget of Strategic Consolidation”, aims to consolidate ongoing infrastructure projects, enhance connectivity, and boost economic competitiveness across the state.
While presenting the budget, Sule commended the legislature for its consistent support in passing previous appropriation bills. He explained that the 2026 budget reflects his administration’s development agenda, with a stronger focus on capital investment. Of the total, N212.79 billion (41.12 per cent) is allocated for recurrent expenditure, while N304.75 billion (58.88 per cent) is designated for capital projects.
The governor provided a sectoral breakdown of the budget, noting allocations for the administrative sector (N108.70 billion), economic sector (N221.84 billion), law and justice (N16.09 billion), and social sector (N170.92 billion). Key sub-sector priorities include infrastructure (N157.80 billion, 30.5 per cent), education (N92.91 billion, 17.95 per cent), governance and security (N142.96 billion, 27.62 per cent), health (N37.19 billion, 7.19 per cent), agriculture and water resources (N31.85 billion, 6.15 per cent), as well as allocations for environment, tourism, youth development, and women empowerment.
Governor Sule reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening government capacity to serve the people effectively.
Receiving the proposal, Speaker of the Assembly, Dr Danladi Jatau, assured the governor of the legislature’s full cooperation for a timely passage of the budget. He urged ministries and agencies to comply with all budgetary provisions and called on citizens to promote peace, unity, and mutual respect across political, ethnic, and religious lines.
