Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has appealed to eligible residents to take part actively in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, warning that low participation could undermine democratic development.
The governor made the appeal on Sunday in Birnin Kudu during the inauguration of a mosque constructed by APC stalwart, Faruk Adamu-Aliyu.
Speaking through his deputy, Aminu Usman, Namadi expressed concern over the poor turnout recorded so far in Jigawa State and across the northern zone.
He urged residents to either validate their Permanent Voter Cards or register afresh, stressing that civic participation was essential to the progress of both the state and the country.
“The North is currently lagging behind in this exercise. We must act now and treat voter registration with the seriousness it deserves if we truly want development,” the governor said.
In his remarks, the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Hameem Nuhu-Muhammad, called on citizens to reject violence and focus on electing credible leaders.
He advised residents not to allow political or party differences to cause division, urging unity, cooperation and peaceful participation in the electoral process.
“Elections are fast approaching. We should pray for leaders who will work for the good of the people and ensure development,” the emir said.
According to NAN, the event attracted several dignitaries, including former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari, ICPC Chairman Dr Musa Aliyu, senior Islamic clerics and other prominent personalities from within and outside Jigawa State.
