NAIC ,NOSDRA Forge Partnership To Tackle Oil Spills, Boost Agriculture

The National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) and the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC) have announced a strategic partnership aimed at tackling environmental challenges and strengthening Nigeria’s agricultural sector.

This development follows a high-level meeting between NOSDRA’s Director General, Engr. Chukwuemeka Woke, and NAIC’s Managing Director, Hon. Yazid Umar Danfulani, at NAIC’s headquarters.

Both agencies said the collaboration will focus on mitigating the impacts of oil spills on agricultural communities and improving food security.

Speaking after the meeting, Engr. Woke highlighted the urgency of addressing oil spill incidents, which he described as a direct threat to farmers’ livelihoods and national food production.

He said the partnership will combine NOSDRA’s expertise in oil spill response with NAIC’s agricultural insurance schemes to create solutions for affected farmers.

Discussions during the meeting involved senior executives from both organisations, including NAIC’s Executive Director of Finance and Administration, Mr. Ayandayo Babaranti.

Hon. Danfulani expressed optimism about the alliance, noting that protecting farmers from environmental hazards was essential to stabilising the agricultural economy.

Plans include joint community outreach, sustainable farming programmes, and rapid response initiatives for spill-affected areas.

Both agencies pledged to work closely to drive environmental resilience and economic recovery, as they seek to protect Nigeria’s environment and ensure food security.
