Miyetti Allah Urges Stronger Protections After Deadly Attack On Herders In Enugu

Nigeria’s cattle breeders’ association, Miyetti Allah (MACBAN), has praised the Enugu State government for intervening in a recent attack on herders but has called for stronger measures to safeguard its members from future violence.

The incident, which claimed the lives of six herders and resulted in the theft of over 100 cattle, has shaken the community. MACBAN’s National Deputy Director, Gidado Siddiki, described the episode as “unfortunate” but said the association was reassured by Governor Peter Mbah’s pledge to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“Our hope remains that through continued collaboration, peace, security, and justice will prevail for all residents in the state,” Siddiki said.

He urged members of the association to remain confident in the government’s handling of the matter, adding that the recovery of the victims’ bodies—thanks to security intervention—allowed for proper burial in line with Islamic rites.

Expressing sympathy to bereaved families, Siddiki stressed that MACBAN did not view the government as responsible for the unrest. Instead, he said, the association recognised the duty to report its ordeals to the authorities while acknowledging the efforts made to maintain peace and security.
