Nigeria’s Attorney-General and Justice Minister Lateef Fagbemi said on Thursday the government would not interfere in investigations conducted by the country’s anti-corruption agencies.
Speaking at a justice ministry retreat in Akwa Ibom state, Fagbemi said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) remain “well organised and best suited” to investigate graft allegations.
“We don’t interfere in the investigation of corruption cases,” he told reporters, adding that the justice ministry only reviews cases after investigations are concluded.
He said President Bola Tinubu’s administration is determined to strengthen the fight against corruption to support infrastructure and economic development.
