Military Rescues Hostages, Arrests Eight Suspected Kidnappers In Nigeria’s Kwara State

In a significant security breakthrough, the Nigerian Army has rescued two hostages and detained eight suspected kidnappers during a raid in Kwara State.

According to a statement from the 22 Armoured Brigade, troops from the Forward Operating Base in Patigi launched a targeted operation on Saturday following actionable intelligence about a criminal camp near Latandaji Village.

Lieutenant Stephen Nwankwo, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, revealed that the suspects attempted to resist arrest but were overpowered by military forces.

“Despite some resistance, the troops swiftly subdued the criminals using superior tactical advantage,” Nwankwo stated on Sunday.

The operation led to the safe recovery of two victims, Amos Moses and Philip Michael. In total, eight individuals believed to be connected to kidnapping activities were taken into custody.

One of the suspects, Mohammed Mohammed, sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange and is receiving medical care under military supervision.

Troops also seized two motorcycles and recovered expended cartridges at the scene, suggesting previous use of firearms by the suspects.

The detainees are currently undergoing preliminary investigation and will subsequently be handed over to law enforcement agencies for prosecution.

Nwankwo reiterated the Army’s commitment to public safety and encouraged communities to continue working with security agencies by sharing vital intelligence.

“The Nigerian Army remains resolute in its mission to rid our communities of criminal threats and ensure long-term stability,” he added.
