Military Ramps Up Nationwide Operations To Boost Security, Protect Farming

Nigeria’s armed forces say they are intensifying operations to dismantle criminal networks while safeguarding agricultural activities across the country, underscoring the link between security and food production.

Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, said on Friday that counter-terrorism efforts were being sustained in all regions, combining ground and aerial strikes with inter-agency collaboration.

In the North East, troops eliminated Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters and seized weapons and vehicles, while in the North West 60 kidnapped victims were rescued in Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna and neighbouring states. Security forces also arrested bandit informants and a notorious criminal leader in Plateau.

In the oil-rich South-South, Operation Delta Safe disrupted theft operations worth an estimated ₦25 million and destroyed illegal refining sites. Meanwhile, in the South East, security forces targeted separatist groups and rescued women and children from an unlicensed orphanage in Imo State.

Kangye said the military would maintain pressure to restore peace nationwide, stressing that its presence was already allowing farmers to work freely during the planting season.
