A 40-year-old Nigerian man, identified as Lekan Adebeshin, has been remanded in custody by a Lagos magistrates’ court after being accused of defiling a 15-year-old girl.
The Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court, presided over by Magistrate B.A. Sonuga, ruled on Monday that Adebeshin be held in a correctional facility. The court referred the case file to the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions for review and fixed 18 September as the next date for proceedings.
Police prosecutor ASP Aminu Isaac alleged that the defendant assaulted the teenager on 10 August in Ikorodu, by engaging in inappropriate contact and later threatening to kill her if she disclosed the incident.
Adebeshin faces a three-count charge covering defilement, unlawful sexual conduct, and issuing threats, offences which fall under Sections 137, 135(1) and 56(a) of the Lagos State Criminal Law.
