Man, 34, Docked Over Alleged Fraudulent Conversion, Stealing Of iPhone Worth N850,000

A 34-year-old man, Samuel Ashibuogwu, on Tuesday appeared before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, over an alleged fraudulent conversion of proceeds from the sale of an iPhone valued N850,000.

The defendant is facing a two-count charge bordering on fraudulent conversion and stealing of proceeds from sale of iphone.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, ASP Esther Adesulu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in June 2024, at the Alaba International Market area of Ojo.

She alleged that the defendant obtained an iphone 13 Promax from one Mr Chinonso Eyin, a nominal complainant, under false pretence and with intent to defraud.

The prosecutor said that the defendant had promised to help sell the iphone to his customer, and return the proceeds of sale immediately to the complainant.

“The representation is false as the defendant allegedly converted the proceeds of sale to his personal use without the consent of the rightful owner.

“The iphone is valued at N850, 000,” Adesulu said.

She said that the defendant was eventually arrested by the police.

The offence, she said, contravened the provisions of Section 287 and 315 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Funke Ogun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until July 1. (NAN)
