Nigeria’s leading herders’ association, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), has welcomed President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to Benue State, commending his efforts to foster peace amid ongoing communal tensions.
In a statement delivered in Abuja on Wednesday, MACBAN President Alhaji Baba Othman-Ngelzarma praised Tinubu’s intervention, calling it a “timely and courageous” step towards restoring harmony in the conflict-prone region.
“We appreciate President Tinubu’s decision to personally visit Benue and encourage both political and traditional leaders to work towards peaceful coexistence,” Othman-Ngelzarma said.
He further applauded the Federal Government and Nigerian security agencies for acting swiftly to contain violence and safeguard affected communities.
Othman-Ngelzarma extended heartfelt condolences to the victims and families impacted by the recent unrest, saying, “The loss of lives and property is deeply regrettable. Our thoughts are with the Government and the people of Benue at this difficult time.”
Representing one of Nigeria’s largest agricultural sectors, MACBAN reaffirmed its support for unity and stability among the country’s over 300 ethnic groups.
“As Fulani cattle breeders and a major contributor to the national economy, we are fully committed to ensuring harmonious relations with all Nigerians,” the statement read.
The group also urged community and political leaders to avoid inflammatory rhetoric that could deepen divisions. “Promoting peace between agrarian and pastoralist communities is not optional—it is essential,” Othman-Ngelzarma concluded.
