Literary Community Gathers in Abuja to Champion Documentation

The capital city of Abuja recently witnessed the launch of three transformative books authored by Dr. Jumai Ahmadu, shedding light on the critical importance of documentation in driving national development. The titles—Evolution and Development of a Federal Capital Territory(Second Edition), When the Spirit Whispers, and Steward of the Nation: The Role of Civil Servants in National Development—aim to enrich the discourse surrounding Nigeria’s progress and the essential role of civil service.

Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, attended the launch, praising the intellectual richness and timely nature of the publications. She noted that these works collectively narrate Nigeria’s historical journey, institutional growth, and the core values that sustain effective public service and personal aspirations.

“These books offer moral clarity and purpose, reinforcing the indispensable role of civil servants in national development,” Dr. Mahmoud stated. She highlighted professionalism, accountability, and service as foundational elements of effective governance, commending Dr. Ahmadu’s dedication to knowledge and nation-building.

Dr. Jumai Ahmadu, who occupies the role of Acting Director of the FCT Reform Coordination and Service Improvement Department, expressed her joy at bringing her vision to life. “The release of the second edition of *The Evolution and Development of a Federal Capital Territory* coincides with the 50th anniversary of the FCT, marking a significant milestone,” she noted. “This book captures first-hand accounts of Abuja’s evolution, featuring insights from engineers, planners, educators, politicians, and traditional leaders.”

Former Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, remarked on the launch’s relevance, asserting, “Nations must intentionally preserve their history to strengthen governance structures.” She added that Dr. Ahmadu’s book enhances understanding of the FCT as both an administrative centre and a symbol of national unity, reinforcing Abuja’s position as Nigeria’s capital and a testament to national cohesion.

Keynote speaker Osasu Igbinedion-Ogwuche framed the event as a moment for reflection and potential national redirection. “These works represent the architecture of place, spirit, and service,” she articulated, stressing that national transformation is a disciplined endeavour that unfolds over time.

During the unveiling, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Dr. Ogwu James Onoja stated, “One of the most significant assets a generation can possess is a written legacy. These books will unite us in knowledge and enhance our national unity.”

Book reviewers, including esteemed academics such as Professor Sale Dauda and Professor Armstrong Idachaba, along with young Rukqayya Abdulrahman, commended Dr. Ahmadu for her contributions to Nigeria’s intellectual discourse and the expansion of the nation’s knowledge base.

The launch not only celebrated Dr. Ahmadu’s literary achievements but also highlighted the necessity for Nigerians to acknowledge the profound impact of documentation on the country’s evolving narrative. As Nigeria continues to develop, these books emerge as essential resources that illuminate the past while inspiring future generations.
