LCCN Bishop Urges INEC To Ensure Credible Elections In 2027

Rt. Rev. Nelson Malau, Bishop of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN), has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct credible elections in 2027.

Malau made the appeal in an interview with journalists at the closing of the LCCN Annual Convention on Monday in Numan Local Government Area(LGA) of Adamawa.

He called on citizens and stakeholders to perform their responsibilities diligently and avoid actions capable of jeopardising the 2027 general elections.

“I urged Nigerians, irrespective of religious affiliations, to pray for peaceful, credible and acceptable elections in the country, he said.

Malau commended the Federal Government for its efforts in addressing security challenges, adding that more needs to be done to curb insurgent activities in parts of the country.

Malau also reiterated the need to establish state police, describing the recent move by the Nigeria Police Force through the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu as a step in the right direction.

He described the recent attacks in Hong and Madagali LGA of Adamawa, as well as the reported security breach in Lamurde, as unfortunate.

The cleric, however, commended the efforts of the Adamawa Government in responding swiftly and addressing the security challenges in the affected areas.

He further advocated massive youth employment and improved electricity supply across the country.

The Guest Speaker, Rev. Akoko Luke of the Evangelical Reformed Church of Christ, Bethel Land, Gwantu in Kaduna State, called on Christians to uphold values that reflected  the teachings and character of Christ in their daily lives.

Speaking on the theme, “Christ in You, the Hope of Glory,” drawn from Epistle to the Colossians 1:27, Luke urged believers to live exemplary lives anchored on faith, righteousness and spiritual discipline.

He emphasised that Christian marriage should be built on love, mutual respect and commitment, noting that strong families remained the foundation of a stable society.

Luke also highlighted the importance of discipline, urging Christians to remain steadfast in their moral conduct and avoid actions capable of bringing reproach to the faith.
